PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an information obtaining method that allows a user who should receive a FAX document to safely and surely receive the FAX document while preventing a third party from seeing the contents of the FAX document even when utilizing a shared-use FAX terminal. SOLUTION: When receiving a document distribution request (YES in a step S1), document information and user identification information respectively included in the received document distribution request are once stored, and then, a mobile phone number and a FAX number or the like regarding a user respectively registered in a user information storing means beforehand are obtained on the basis of the user identification information (a step S2). Prior to the distribution of a FAX document, transmission is made to the obtained mobile phone number or the obtained FAX number (a step S3). When receiving a reply, inquiry notification is transmitted so as to allow the user to select any one of the following options, that is, instantaneous distribution of the FAX document, distribution at the time when callback transmission is made from the user later, distribution on the date and at the time designated by the user, and distribution rejection (a step S4).
