PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a flaw detection device, capable of suppressing the surface damage of a material to be inspected, and also capable of preventing the erroneous detection of the damage caused by the air bubbles in a flaw detection liquid, regardless of the shape of the material to be inspected. SOLUTION: The ultrasonic flaw detection device 1 (flaw detection device) includes a flaw detection unit (a probe 11 and a reflecting plate 12) for detecting the flaw of a platelike continuous object 2, a flaw detection tank 14 wherein the flaw of the platelike continuous object 2 is detected by the flaw detection unit and the water-containing flaw detection liquid 13 stored in the flaw detection tank 14. During flaw detection of the platelike continuous object 2 by the flaw detection unit, a low surface tension solution 30 prepared by adding about 29.9-49.8 mass% of ethanol, which reduces the surface tension of water, to water is positioned on the upper and lower surfaces 2a and 2b of the platelike continuous object 2 in the water-containing flaw detection liquid 13.
