Disclosed is a gel electrolyte which enables the fabrication of an electrochemical element having a low impedance. A gel electrolyte characterized in that a non-aqueous liquid electrolyte is held in a glucomannan matrix. This gel electrolyte can be obtained by a method which comprises immersing a glucomannan hydrogel in the non-aqueous liquid electrolyte and thus replacing water in the hydrogel with the non-aqueous liquid electrolyte, or a method which comprises immersing the glucomannan hydrogel in ethanol, thus replacing water in the glucomannan hydrogel with ethanol, then, after the replacement, drying the gel in supercritical carbon dioxide to give a porous gel, and impregnating the obtained porous gel with the non-aqueous liquid electrolyte. An aluminum electrolytic condenser fabricated by using the aforesaid gel electrolyte shows an impedance that is equal to or less than 1/6 of the impedances of the existing condensers using a separator and a non-aqueous liquid electrolyte. |
