PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To wipe a nozzle forming surface while suppressing the contamination of a wiping member and the turbulence of a meniscus in a nozzle. SOLUTION: This maintenance apparatus 30 has a wiper 33 which is formed of an elastic material having rubber elasticity, and wipes the nozzle forming surface 19a on which the nozzle 19b for discharging (jetting) an ink I is formed of the tip 33a of the wiper 33. On the wiping functional side surface 33b of the wiper 33, at the base end side of the tip 33a, a laterally long rectangular recess 38 is formed.
