摘要 PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an arc welding system capable of rapidly evacuating a wire tip end from an object to be welded even when any sufficient space is not present around a welding starting point, and executing a quick transfer from the initial arc to the stationery arc, and to provide an arc welding method. SOLUTION: When a welding power source 7 detects the contact of the tip end of a welding wire 5 with an object 6 to be welded when starting the arc welding, a short circuit signal is transmitted to a wire feeding device 3 and a robot controller 8. When the wire feeding device 3 receives the short circuit signal, it changes the feeding direction of the welding wire 5 to the reverse direction. When the robot controller 8 receives the short circuit signal, it moves a robot 1 at predetermined moving speed reversely along the approach locus to the welding starting point by the predetermined moving amount to execute a returning operation of a welding torch 2, and to separate the tip end of the welding wire 5 from the object 6 to be welded.
