GAS-LIQUID CONTACTING METHOD AND COLUMN EMPLOYING A COMBINATION OF PLATES AND PACKINGS

The gas-liquid contacting column comprises at least an upper plate 10 and a lower plate, and also an overflow 2 for conducting the liquid from the upper plate to the lower plate. The plates have holes through which the gas passes. A packing 11 is placed between the upper plate and the lower plate. The upper plate includes means 12 for withdrawing liquid from the upper plate, the withdrawn liquid being distributed over the packing. The gas-liquid contacting column is particularly well suited for the absorption of CO2 and H2S contained in a natural gas or in a syngas and for the capture of CO2 contained in combustion flue gas.
