<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a means suitable for stably manufacturing and supplying exhaust gas for evaluation which is supplied to an exhaust emission control device and in which particulate matters (PM) have a desired specific component ratio. <P>SOLUTION: In this PM generating method, gas oil is intermittently injected into combustion air while the air excess percentage λ is specified, and is burned at a temperature of 750°C or higher and 1,050°C or lower, and the particulate matter of the specific component ratio is generated in the gas.
