PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method and device detecting a fine defect which exist in a pipe, continuously and accurately during a manufacturing process of the pipe. SOLUTION: This defect detection device 100 is provided with: a moving average operation means 271 for operating a moving average of each absolute value of a differential output at each of a plurality of continuous sampling points; a defect detection threshold determination means 272 for determining a defect detection threshold to a differential output at a sampling point in succession to the plurality of sampling points based on the moving average acquired by the moving average operation means; and a defect determination means 273 for determining that a pipe P has a defect, when the differential output at the succeeding sampling point exceeds the defect detection threshold determined by the defect detection threshold determination means.
