PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a variable displacement vane pump reducing the sliding resistance of a vane and a cam ring while ensuring the sufficient jumping-out property of the vane. SOLUTION: This variable displacement vane pump 10 variably controlling a discharge flow rate based on the eccentricity of a cam ring 16 with respect to the axis center of a drive shaft 14 is so configured that, especially, each vane 22 jumps out with intermediate pressure higher than inlet pressure and lower than discharge pressure as back pressure. Thereby, it is possible to achieve both an improvement in the jumping-out property of the vane 22 and a reduction in the sliding resistance of the vane 22 and cam ring 16.
