The radar system has transmitting units for radiating transmission signals, receiving units for receiving the transmission signals reflected on the objects and signal processing units (1.9) for processing the received signals. The objects are detected from the signals received through reflection on objects by processing in the signal processing units. The object dimensions such as distance, relative velocity, the azimuthal angle to the radar system are determined. An independent claim is also included for a method for detecting the surroundings of a motor vehicle by a radar system.
