<p><P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an optical wavelength filter which is easily manufactured and has no polarization wave dependency. <P>SOLUTION: The optical wavelength filter 10 splits, from the mixed light of a first TE component which is the TE component of light having a first wavelength, the TM component of the light having the first wavelength and the second TE component which is the TE component of the light having a second wavelength, into the first TE component and the TM component, and the second TE component. Also, the filter 10 includes: a first multimode optical waveguide 16 of which the first width has a dimension to excite only 0-th mode light and first mode light; a second multimode optical waveguide 18 which is connected to the first multimode optical waveguide 16 and has the mean value of a second width larger than the first width; and a third multimode optical waveguide 20 which is connected to the second multimode optical waveguide and has a third width larger than the second width; wherein when the lengths of the first to the third multimode optical waveguides along the propagation direction of light are denoted by L<SB>1</SB>to L<SB>3</SB>, respectively, L<SB>1</SB>to L<SB>3</SB>are determined on the basis of eigenmode equation. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2011,JPO&INPIT</p> |
