<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To perform a polarization independent operation not varying the polarization state of output light at a sufficient response speed as an element utilized in the technical field of optical communication. <P>SOLUTION: The delay interferometer in which a phase shifter 20 is incorporated includes a demultiplexer 12, a first reflecting mirror 14, a second reflecting mirror 16 and a multiplexer 18. Input signal light 11 is input to the demultiplexer and branched into first branched light 13-1 and second branched light 13-2. The first branched light is reflected by the first reflecting mirror and is input to the multiplexer. Meanwhile, the second branched light 13-2 is input to the phase shifter, time-delayed for phase adjustment, and converted to a second branching signal 17 for output. The first branched light and the second branching signal are multiplexed in the multiplexer and optical signals 19-1 and 19-2 are output. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2011,JPO&INPIT |
