PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a projector which improves cooling efficiency with a simple structure. SOLUTION: The projector is provided with: a dimming device 10 that adjusts a light amount of an incident light flux; a polarization converting element 423 that is arranged on a light flux emission side of the dimming device 10 and optically converts the incident light flux; a cooling fan 51 that cools down the dimming device 10 and the polarization converting element 423; and a duct 52 that is connected to a discharge port 512 of the cooling fan 51, and guides cooling air discharged from the discharge port 512 to the dimming device 10 and the polarization converting element 423. The duct 52 has an open/close member 522 that changes a flow rate of the cooling air delivered to the dimming device 10 or the polarization converting element 423 according to a state of the light amount adjusted by the dimming device 10.
