摘要 PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To improve the sensitivity of a sensor using an optical waveguide core. SOLUTION: This sensor 200 includes a light source 12, an optical fiber 20, a probe 320, an optical fiber 40, and a detector 52. The probe 320 includes an optical waveguide core 321 having a down taper, and a clad 322 for adsorbing a specific chemical substance and swelling. The quantity of light of an optical component reflected on an interface between the optical waveguide core 321 and the clad 322 for adsorbing the specific chemical substance and swelling increases when the refractive index of the clad 322 for adsorbing the specific chemical substance and swelling decreases. There is extremely small amount of component transmitted to the optical fiber 40 without being reflected on the interface between the optical waveguide core 321 and the clad 322, so that the sensing sensitivity of the sensor 200 improves comparing with that of a sensor using an optical waveguide core having no taper.
