Provided is an industrially advantageous means for obtaining a high-purity terminal olefin compound (such as 7-octenal). A method for producing a high-purity terminal olefin compound comprises: a step of converting internal olefin compounds contained as impurities into compounds having a higher boiling point by bringing a mixture containing a terminal olefin compound represented by chemical formula 1 and the internal olefin compounds into contact with a brominating agent in the presence of water or an alcohol; and a step of purifying the terminal olefin compound from the mixture obtained in the previous step by distillation.
