The slave has a non-volatile storage i.e. firmware, storing multiple network addresses (4) of an actuator sensor-interface safety at work network, where code sequences (5) are fixedly assigned to the network addresses. The slave is connected with a safety monitor via the actuator sensor-interface safety at work network. The addresses are transmitted to the monitor using actuator sensor-interface procedures. The safety monitor determines the code sequences of the slave from the assignment stored in the firmware. An independent claim is also included for a method for safety-relevant communication within an actuator sensor-interface safety at work network.
