<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method and a device used for the casting of a composite metal ingot. <P>SOLUTION: The mold 10 includes: a feed edge; an exhaust edge; and a splitting wall 14 splitting the feed edge to at least two separate feed chambers, and each feed chamber is adjacent to at least one other feed chamber. To a pair of the adjoining feed chambers, the stream of a first alloy is made to flow to either of the pair of the feed chambers, and the stream of a second alloy is fed to the other feed chamber of the pair. An independent face is formed on the stream of the first alloy, the stream of the second alloy is first contacted with the independent face at a place in which the temperature of the independent face is lower than the solidus temperature of the first alloy, and next, the boundary between the two alloys is reheated to a temperature between a liquidus temperature and a solidus temperature between the two alloys so as to form a composite ingot. This composite ingot has the dispersed grains of one or more intermetallic compounds of the first alloy at the region of the second alloy adjacent to the boundary. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2011,JPO&INPIT |
