PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a material detecting sensor capable of enhancing detection sensitivity. SOLUTION: The liquid detecting sensor 2 includes a pair of sensor electrodes 11 and 12 to detect a liquid R approaching the sensor electrodes 11 and 12 based on change of capacitance across a pair of the sensor electrodes 11 and 12. Alternatively, over detecting surfaces 11d and 12d of the sensor electrodes 11 and 12 the liquid R approach, a nano-particle layer 32 is arranged containing a plurality of nano-particles giving rise to surface plasmon resonance.
