PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a projector, capable of cleaning a surface of a dirty optical component existent in an optical path from a lighting system to a projection optical system without disassembling the projector. SOLUTION: The projector 1000 is provided with the lighting system, a light modulation device, and the projection optical system is further provided with a wiper device 700 capable of cleaning the surface of at least any one optical component among the optical components existing in the optical path from the lighting system to the projection optical system by wiping the surface.
