Disclosed is an electrolyte for a rechargeable lithium battery and a rechargeable lithium battery including the same. The electrolyte includes a lithium salt, trialkylsilyl(meth)acrylate compound represented by the following Chemical Formula 1, a halogenated carbonate compound, and an organic solvent. In the above Chemical Formula 1, R1 is hydrogen or methyl, and R2 to R4 are the same or different and one selected from C1 to C6 alkyl.
