The preform (20) has a neck section (22) carrying a circulating snap ring (28) and a circulating support ring (30) at an outer surface. A preform body (32) is arranged below the neck section, where the neck section is provided with a conical inner contour. Diameter and/or thickness of the snap ring are reduced in such a manner that transportation of the preform is made by the snap ring. The conical inner contour of the neck section is designed with a taper ratio between 1:5 and 1:50. Independent claims are also included for the following: (1) a device for manufacturing a can blank of a can (2) a method for manufacturing a can blank (3) a can consisting of a can blank and a can cover.
