The driver assistance- and safety system has two separately formed processing devices. The former processing device is designed to switch a vehicle distance sensor in an operating mode. The former processing device receives a sensor signal released by the distance sensor in the operating mode and provides a data signal corresponding to a sensor signal. The latter processing device is designed to determine the vehicle surrounding information taking into account the provided data signal. An independent claim is also included for a method for operating a control- or information output device of a vehicle.
