PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method of producing high-carbon steel wire rod excellent in drawability, which improves peelability by MD (Mechanical Descaling), of mill scale as secondary scale with which the surface of the steel wire rod is covered, consequently prevents the scale from remaining descaled after subjected to the MD and biting of the scale (oxide) into a die in a wire drawing process and lessens the surface roughness of matrix after subjected to the MD, thereby suppressing a reduction in a life of the die and a deterioration in the surface property due to a damaged die. SOLUTION: The method for producing the wire rod includes steps of: forming a steel billet having suitably adjusted chemical component composition into a wire rod shape by hot rolling; and coiling the wire rod-shaped steel billet. In the method, the heating temperature in the hot-rolling time of the steel billet is set to 950-1,050°C and the coiling temperature is set to 890-990°C, and production is performed.
