PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a paper feeding unit restricting double feeding of a printing medium and preventing a surface of the printing medium from being damaged. SOLUTION: The paper feeding unit for a printer includes: a pick-up roller 56 to be brought into contact with the top surface of a placed print medium P to apply a carrying-out force to the printing medium P; and a friction roller 51 provided under the pick-up roller 56 so as to be brought into contact with a lower surface of the printing medium P when conveying out the printing medium P to apply friction force to the printing medium P. A friction pad 52 and a guide roller 53 are arranged outside the friction roller 51 in the axial direction, and a second contact level L2 of the top surface of the friction pad 52 is set higher than a first contact level L1 of the top surface of the friction roller 51, and a third contact level L3 of the guide roller 53 thereby becomes higher in contact to prevent a phenomenon where excessive force is applied to the printing medium P from the friction pad 52.
