PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain desired coastal ocean current prediction information by deriving the ocean current conditions of a coast from each information acquired from a plurality of ships navigating in a coastal area and correcting the ocean current prediction information which is acquired separately. SOLUTION: The ocean current data assimilation system includes a GPS 101 installed in a ship; a gyro compass 102; a LOG ship speed meter 103; a memory 1041 for storing those pieces of acquired information as coastal ocean current individual information, including information acquisition times; a communications apparatus 105 for transmitting those pieces of stored coastal ocean current individual information by a wireless communications means including a cellular phone line and a wireless LAN at predetermined time intervals or at communication-enabled opportunity; a communications apparatus 208 as a receiving means for receiving the transmitted coastal ocean current individual information; a coastal ocean current observation data processing unit 202 for processing the received coastal ocean current individual information to obtain coastal ocean current observation data which is associated with the positions of the plurality of ships and the times; and a coastal ocean current prediction data processing unit 204.
