Disclosed is a stable external preparation for the skin, which has an excellent effect of providing the skin with a firm feeling after use. Also disclosed is an external preparation for the skin, which exhibits excellent adhesion to the skin without making the skin greasy, in addition to the stableness and the effect of providing the skin with a firm feeling after use. Specifically disclosed is an external preparation for the skin, which contains a finely dispersed wax composition that is obtained by finely dispersing a solid or semi-solid wax in an aqueous dispersion medium. The external preparation for the skin is characterized in that the finely dispersed wax composition contains a wax that is in a solid state or in a semi-solid state at room temperature, a nonionic surfactant, an aqueous dispersion medium, an ionic water-soluble thickener, and if necessary, a silicone oil and/or a fluorine oil that is in a liquid state at room temperature. The external preparation for the skin is also characterized in that the nonionic surfactant/wax mass ratio is not less than 1.0, the particle diameter of the finely dispersed wax is 500 nm or less, and an ionic surfactant is not substantially contained in the preparation.
