<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a light source with a polarization function capable of emitting light of all polarization components of random polarization emitted from a light-emitting means through polarization conversion aligning into one direction, so that, light utilization efficiency of a backlight for a liquid crystal display element is enhanced to be also able, as a result, to adapt to local dimming. <P>SOLUTION: At one of two positions to be symmetrical with respect to an optical axis as a center of a lens L0 on an anterior focal plane (a focal plane of a light incident side) or its vicinity of the lens L0 of a focal distance f0, a light-emitting means 10 (for example, one or plurality of organic LEDs) of random polarization is fitted, and a 1/4 wavelength film 14 and a mirror 12 reflecting light having passed through the film 14 are fitted at the other of the two positions. A light source with the polarization function 4 with a wire grid polarizer 16 arranged is fitted in the vicinity of a lens surface of the lens L0. Furthermore, a homogenizer 6 keeping polarization homogeneous angularly and spatially is arranged on an emission side of the light source with the polarization function 4. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2011,JPO&INPIT |
