PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a rolled electroactive polymer device, and a method and a device for manufacturing such devices. SOLUTION: The present invention also describes use of such devices in a wide range of applications and manufacturing methods. A rolled electroactive polymer device performs conversion between electrical and mechanical energy, and includes a rolled electroactive polymer and at least two electrodes to provide mechanical-electrical energy conversion. Prestrain is typically applied to a polymer. According to a certain embodiment, the rolled electroactive polymer uses a mechanism similar to a spring that applies force for straining the polymer. The prestrain improves mechanical-electrical energy conversion for numerous electroactive polymers. Therefore, this mechanism improves performance of the rolled electroactive polymer device.
