Disclosed is a method for detecting an antibody against a small protein encoded by the intermediate stage transcript of HHV-6 (SITH-1) in a biological sample. The method comprises the following steps 1) to 3): 1) providing SITH-1 protein; 2) binding SITH-1 protein provided in step 1) to a carrier; and 3) bringing a biological sample (2) into contact with the SITH-1 protein-bound carrier produced in step 2) and detecting the antibody against SITH-1 protein.
