A double-walled carrier bag (1) has outer and inner walls that are joined at the opening (5) of the bag (1) and form double-walled side panels, each of which has a portion (4) that is folded to reduce the size of the panel and the opening (5) of the bag. A releasable fastener (3) holds each of the panels in its folded condition.
