An extension arm apparatus (100) is provided for mounting devices such as flat panel monitors above a workspace. The apparatus (100) includes upper and lower channel members (104, 106) connected to a pair of endcaps (102, 108). One endcap (102) may connect to the workspace and the other endcap (108) may connect to an extension arm (110) or to the device to be mounted. At least one of the channel members (104, 106) includes a reinforcement structure (120) providing additional support to the apparatus (100). The reinforcement structure (120) is tapered. In some embodiments, the reinforcement structure (120) tapers between the sidewalls of the respective channel member (104, 106). The reinforcement structure (120) may also taper longitudinally between the first and second ends of the respective channel member (104, 106).
