<p>A data storage system comprises means to receive a storage request for a data file from a requesting entity, the storage request being associated with an identifier for the requesting entity, means to determine a first data identifier for the data file for which storage is requested, said first identifier uniquely characterising the content and content characteristics of the data file, means to compare the first data identifier with one or more other data identifiers stored in said data storage system, means to search other data servers controllable by other parties for content data having a data identifier which matches said first data identifier, means to store an association of a storage address of matching content data located by said search with said first data identifier; and means to provide in a storage area associated with the requesting entity in said server system, a indicator for said data file which is linked to the storage address of the matching content data, whereby said requesting entity is provided with access to the data associated with said data file.</p> |
