The generator has a combustion chamber (C) comprising a pyrotechnic initiator (2) and a pyrotechnic load (3) whose combustion is triggered by the initiator, which communicates with a spray chamber (D). Gases (G) resulting from combustion of the load are transferred by the spray chamber. The spray chamber is equipped with a piston (5) placed against a wall (14) by an elastic return unit (6) to block an opening (140). The piston is reapplied against a seat under an action of the elastic return unit, so as to allow passage of the gases from an upstream to a downstream through a channel.
