In vitro screening of the presence of or tendency towards cardiopathy, comprises: extracting the biological material from a sample containing TRPM4 gene or its expression products; and detecting the presence of mutation in the sequence TRPM4 of the biological material using TRPM4-specific reagents, that the presence is highlighted by comparing with the sequence of reference TRPM4. Independent claims are included for: (1) use of specific reagents for in vitro detection of TRPM4 mutation for determining the existence of or tendency towards cardiopathy; and (2) kit for screening the existence of or tendency towards cardiopathy, comprising specific reagents of the nucleotide or protein sequence of TRPM4 allowing the detection of mutation, instructions for carrying out the comparison with the reference sequence, optionally the reagents and/or devices for carrying out the extraction of the biological material from a biological sample may contain the gene TRPM4 or its expression products, and optionally a sample containing the sequence of reference TRPM4.
