The gauge has a wedging unit for positioning a body element on the gauge and including a centering wedge. Centering units center the gauge in a zone of a frame (2) that is equipped with the body element, where each centering unit comprises a centering pin that is cooperated with an centering opening (3) in the frame. Each centering unit includes a centering wedge. A presetting pin of each centering unit is cooperated with a presetting opening that is formed in the frame. An independent claim is also included for a method for manually assembling a body element in a zone of a frame of a vehicle.
