PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To improve the accuracy of recognition in automatic recognition of a traffic sign by a computer. SOLUTION: The traffic sign recognition device 200 is configured to acquire a plurality of captured images taken with the lapse of time while traveling along a road; to analyze a first captured image to recognize a traffic sign candidate area; to set a peripheral area along the outer shape of the traffic sign candidate area in the first captured image; to compare the first captured image with a second captured image taken at a time different from the first captured image to determine a motion vector of the traffic sign candidate area between the first captured image and the second captured image; to determine a motion vector of the peripheral area between the first captured image and the second captured image; and to determine whether the traffic sign candidate area is a traffic sign area with a traffic sign as a recognition object being a subject based on the difference between the motion vector of the traffic sign candidate area and the motion vector of the peripheral area.
