PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a control device for an internal combustion engine inhibiting deterioration of combustion noise when EGR is stopped in a long idling state. SOLUTION: This device includes an EGR mechanism 2 recirculating exhaust gas to an intake system of the engine 1, a fuel injection valve 3 injecting fuel into a combustion chamber of the engine 1, a fuel injection control means 24 controlling fuel injection of the fuel injection valve 3, and an EGR stop means 23 stopping operation of the EGR mechanism 2 when idling operation of the engine 1 continues for a prescribed period of time. The fuel injection control means 24 increases number of times of fuel injection of the fuel injection valve when the EGR stop means 23 stops operation of the EGR mechanism 2.
