Provided is a method for reducing the failure to polish a portion of a lens having a radius of curvature of a convex surface shape which varies depending on its position. A lens substrate (40) is obliquely attached to a lens holder (20) so that the distance between a lens reference surface (S1) perpendicular to an edge of the lens substrate (40) used for manufacturing a progressive refractive power lens and a surface (S2) perpendicular to a rotation axis of the lens substrate (40) upon polishing is greater on the short distance area side of the lens substrate than on the long distance area side and is polished.
