The gearing mechanism (12), to adjust the pitch of a motor vehicle seat backrest, has an outer component (1) with inner teeth (1a) at one seat component and an inner component (2) with outer teeth (2a) at another seat component. The inner component is of a smaller diameter and has fewer teeth. An eccentric (3) sets the position of the inner component within the outer, with a shaft assembly (4,5) to be rotated by the user. The components are shaped from plate with axially projecting collars and teeth.
