A portable pump 210 pumps fuel from a source container to a destination container and concurrently pumps fuel vapour back from the destination container to the source container. The pump 210 has a liquid inlet 223a, a liquid outlet, a piston 232, a vapour inlet and a vapour outlet 226a. The upward stroke of the piston 232 draws fuel from the source container into the pump 210 through the fuel inlet 223a and pushes the vapour out of the pump 210 to the source container through the vapour outlet 226a. The downward stroke of the piston 232 draws the vapour from the destination container into the pump through the vapour inlet and pushes the fuel out of the pump to the destination container through the liquid outlet.
