PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a laser distance measuring device capable of omitting complicated data input works, etc. to the utmost extent when setting a detection area and more easily setting the detection area. SOLUTION: This laser distance measuring device 1 includes a device body 2 and a reference object 80 constituted as a separate body from the device body 2. The reference object 80 is constituted to emit specified reflected light when laser light is made incident. When the reference object 80 is arranged on a scanning area of laser light on the device body 2 side, whether or not detected reflected light is the specified reflected light is judged. When the detected reflected light is judged to be the specified reflected light, time from generation of pulse laser light to be the origin of the specified reflected light to the detection of the specified reflected light is detected. Based on the detected time, a distance up to the reference object 80 is calculated. Based on the calculated distance, a part of the scanning area is set as the detection area.
