Disclosed is the use of one or more compounds selected from 5-aminolevulinic acid, its salts, 5-aminolevulinic acid ester, and N-acyl-5-aminolevulinic acid, and also using an iron compound, for the manufacture of an external preparation for ameliorating skin diseases such as skin roughness, dry skin, wrinkles, flecks, and atopic dermatitis.
