<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a recording/playback apparatus which allows to easily verify that a sound is unfailingly being recorded when recording sound and also allows to easily determine that the sound is unfailingly replayed, converted with a desired directionality when replaying/converting the sound. <P>SOLUTION: When sound recording mode is selected, the sound is picked up by microphones MICh1, MICh2, MICh3, and sound data Shm1(n), Shm2(n), Shm3(n) are stored in a storage part 3. On this occasion, sound recording status is graphically displayed on a display part 6 and a monitor sound is delivered. When replay mode is selected, the sound pickup stops, and the sound data Shm1(n), Shm2(n), Shm3(n) stored in the storage part 3 are used to generate replay sound data.
