PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a light emitting element that uses a luminescent material not requiring large heat energy for and having a small environmental load in manufacture.

SOLUTION: The light emitting element comprises a luminescent material composed of silicon oxide as a main component having a silicon content of≥40 wt.% and an oxide content of≥40 wt.%, a fluorescent substance adsorbed on the surface of the luminescent material or having a modified surface of the luminescent material and an energy source 20 for exciting a fluorescent material composite 40 composed of the luminescent material and the fluorescent substance.
