PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a hopping direct recording type image forming apparatus reducing image density unevenness compared with the prior art. SOLUTION: Positions near through-holes 14Y comparatively long in distance to the curved surface of a cylinder part 31Y in a toner carrying sleeve out of a plurality of through-holes 14Y in a circuit substrate 10Y, within a space between the curved surface and the circuit substrate 10Y, are provided with thickening electrodes 13Y for increasing the thickness of a floating toner layer L<SB>t</SB>, and thickening power sources 92Y for increasing the thickness of the floating toner layer L<SB>t</SB>by applying, to the thickening electrodes 13Y, a thickening periodic pulse voltage which serves as average potential of a larger value on the opposite polarity side to the charging polarity of toner than average potential per unit time of a hopping periodic pulse voltage.
