PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To overcome a failure in which horizontally long photographed image is reproduced in a vertically long liquid crystal display and display becomes difficult and uncomfortable to view in a heretofore known configuration in which a reproduction mode is set when an image capturing apparatus is held vertically in a method for switching the mode of the image capturing apparatus. SOLUTION: When a shooting mode is determined in S102, the image of an object is captured to an imaging means in S103, and the image is displayed on the liquid crystal display 16 in S104. The tilt of a digital camera 10 is detected at all times and the posture is determined (S105). The mode to be object of switching is displayed on the screen of the liquid crystal display in S106, the direction from which the tap is applied to the digital camera 10 is determined in S107, and when it is determined that the tap is applied from a prescribed direction, a central processing circuit switches the mode of the digital camera.
