PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method of efficiently producing a polymer having a stable radical in a side chain. SOLUTION: A (meth)acrylic ester (a) is represented by general formula (1) (wherein R<SP>1</SP>is hydrogen or methyl; R<SP>2</SP>is 1-5C alkyl which may have a substituent, aromatic hydrocarbon which may have a substituent or cyano; and R<SP>3</SP>and R<SP>4</SP>are each 1-5C alkyl which may have a substituent, 1-5C alkylcarboxy which may have a substituent, or 1-5C carboxyalkyl which may have a substituent, and may be the same or different mutually or may be mutually bound to form a ring).
