PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To properly process seams between images occurring when using staggered sensors. SOLUTION: In a reference marker YY, a position (read pixel (m)) of a fine line Ya read by a CIS (Contact Image Sensor)-a and a position (read pixel (n-1)) of a fine line Yb read by a CIS-b are shifted by one pixel in a main scanning direction. In main-scanning seam correction processing to be performed by a main-scanning seam corrector 207, read signals up to the read pixel (m-1) preceding to the read pixel (m) are used for read signals of the CIS-a, and read signals following a read pixel (n) next to the read pixel (n-1) are used for read signals of the CIS-b.
