PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image forming apparatus for attaining improvement of image quality and reduction in the consumption power. SOLUTION: The image forming apparatus is configured to draw images, by scanning a light on a projection surface, includes a light source and includes a light-emitting part for emitting light; a light scanning part for scanning light emitted from the light-emitting part on the projection surface in a prescribed direction; and a control means for controlling operation of the light-emitting part. The apparatus is provided with a drawing period for drawing the images and a non-drawing period for not drawing the images. When the minimum value of a current supplied to the light source in the drawing period is I<SB>a</SB>, the apparatus is configured so as to set the value of the current supplied to the light source at I<SB>b</SB>, which is smaller than I<SB>a</SB>in a part of the non-drawing period.
