<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To achieve satisfactory alignment of a printing medium by reducing contact pressure between a transfer roller and the printing medium with a simple construction. Ž<P>SOLUTION: A printer includes a fascia section 2 for inserting a passbook T or a statement paper Sb; a transfer roller 11 for transferring the passbook T or the statement paper Sb along a transfer passage 6b; a dot head 9a performing printing on the passbook T or the statement paper Sb transferred by the transfer roller 11; an alignment roller 33 disposed between the dot head 9a and the fascia section 2, and moving the passbook T transferred by the transfer roller 11 in a direction orthogonal to the transfer direction thereof; an alignment plate 34 abutting the passbook T moved by the alignment roller 33 thereon to be aligned with respect to the dot head 9a; and a depression mechanism 37 for depressing the passbook T in a direction to separate from the transfer roller 11 when the passbook T is moved by the alignment roller 33.
